Vintage keyboards with character and an authentic playing feel in a compact stage keyboard format—that’s the success story of the Swedish manufacturer Clavia. At the 2026 NAMM Show, the company announced the new Nord Electro 7. With so many rivals entering the field, one must ask: Will the seventh generation be innovative enough to maintain its position at the top?

As with other Nord instruments, this one remains faithful to its series in terms of design and overall concept, including the unmistakable red finish. So, what are the key new features this time?

More Information

More Nord, More Electro!

It’s becoming clear that the Electro series is moving closer to the Nord Stage in terms of features, even if it doesn’t quite reach that level. This applies to both minor additions, such as the new piano comp function, as well as major updates, such as the redesigned synth section of the Nord Electro 7.

The sample synth found in its predecessor is now simply labeled “Synth.” At first glance, this may seem like a simplification, but it actually reflects an expansion of the instrument’s capabilities.

More Than Sampling!

Of course, you can still load sounds from the Nord Sample Library into the instrument’s memory. Additionally, the synth section now supports virtual analog synthesis and even FM synthesis. The control panel has been expanded with several additional parameters, yet the compact and focused layout of the synth section remains intact. Everything is quick and easy to access.

More Expressive Possibilities

With its expanded synthesizer capabilities, it’s only natural to want additional real-time articulation controls, such as a modulation wheel or joystick. And that’s precisely what Clavia has introduced with the Nord Electro 7. Somewhat unusually, this update was announced a few days after the initial product launch. These performance controls are therefore no longer reserved exclusively for the Nord Stage (and the dedicated Nord synthesizers). (Update: January 21, 2026)

In addition, the Nord Electro 7 offers further refinement in this area: the new expression pedal assignment function is designed to make real-time control of synthesizer parameters even more intuitive during performance.

More Effect Options

Here, too, the Electro moves closer to the larger Nord models such as the Nord Stage and Nord Piano. The effects sections can now be configured independently for each sound section. For example, you can assign reverb and phaser to the pianos, while the organ section uses rotary speaker simulation and chorus. Want to add delay and flanger to the synth section? No problem! All of these effects can now run in parallel.

Now with a Kawai Keyboard!

The model lineup remains largely unchanged: The Nord Electro 7 is available with three different keyboard options. Two versions feature a waterfall keyboard, offered with either 61 or 73 keys.

The Electro 7 HP, on the other hand, is equipped with a triple-sensor keyboard manufactured by Kawai. This likely elevates the playing experience for acoustic and digital piano repertoire. The benefits of the collaboration between Nord and Kawai are already evident in the Nord Grand 2.

All models are fitted with physical drawbars in the organ section, which are, incidentally, on par with the sound engine of the Nord Organ 3.

Improved Handling

A welcome enhancement can be found in the sound sections: You no longer need to cycle through the different sound categories using toggle buttons. Instead, a push encoder now simplifies this process—just turn to browse and press to confirm. Unfortunately, this new control has not been implemented in the organ section.

Conclusion

Most of the updates focus on the expanded sound capabilities. The enhanced synth section is particularly promising, as is the extended effects architecture. Above all, many players will be eager to experience how the triple-sensor keyboard developed in collaboration with Kawai influences the overall playing feel.
