The Korg Liano LIVE! is the world’s first piano with built-in live streaming capability. That may sound sensational at first, but what advantages does a digital piano with an integrated streaming studio actually offer?
At first, streaming on a digital piano may sound crazy. Why would you need that? After all, you just want to play, right? But once you take a closer look at the details, it quickly starts to make sense.
If you’re wondering what streaming means in this context, the Korg Liano LIVE! transforms it into a new form of live performance. With the Liano, playing directly on platforms such as TikTok or YouTube is as easy as taking online piano lessons, for example. But first things first.
For starters, the Korg Liano LIVE! is based on the popular Liano model, a compact and portable digital piano with a semi-weighted keyboard. This already makes it clear that the instrument is extremely lightweight and designed with mobility in mind.
The Japanese manufacturer has now expanded on this concept with a host of modern features that connect the digital piano directly to computers, mobile devices, and ultimately, the internet.
These include a built-in audio interface with a dedicated microphone channel and line input, as well as SFX buttons and an onboard rhythm section. With the panel faders, you can intuitively fade in and out of all these components and the instrument’s internal sounds.
This gives the instrument a subtle studio-like feel without making it seem overly technical. It still very much feels like a musical instrument.
The package also includes a dynamic microphone with cable and desktop stand. Depending on whether you’re using it for speech or vocals, you can switch the reverb effect in the mic channel on or off.
With the Korg Liano LIVE!, it essentially means recording without the usual technical hurdles. While the term “streaming” can be interpreted in different ways, it primarily refers to digital audio recording. The built-in USB audio/MIDI interface allows the instrument to directly connect to computers or mobile devices. This means you can link it to a DAW in just a few simple steps and fully integrate the Korg Liano LIVE! into your setup. All you need is a standard USB-C cable to transmit both audio and MIDI data.
You can route all internal sounds from the digital piano directly to audio tracks in your DAW to record your performance. Likewise, you can send audio from the DAW back to the Liano LIVE! and adjust it using the dedicated USB/Line-In fader. This provides an elegant solution for working with VSTs or music apps, such as those available for iOS from Korg.
Instead of connecting to a DAW, you can use the digital piano with conferencing software. This allows you to perform online with both your voice and instrument. Playing back recordings is just as easy. You can also stream directly to social media platforms, such as YouTube or TikTok, either to record your performance as a video or to broadcast it live. Normally, this would require a range of additional recording equipment, but the Liano LIVE!’s integrated USB audio/MIDI streaming functionality handles it all seamlessly.
With its PianoRec headset, Korg has already simplified the process of streaming piano performances. With the Korg Liano LIVE!, you no longer need to be particularly tech-savvy to perform, record, or take online piano lessons over the internet. Integration with computers and mobile devices now appears to be optimally implemented in a digital piano as well.
