Learning the piano on a keyboard? Not really! The Roland Go:Piano closes the gap between keyboard and portable piano. Although it only has a 61 keys, the small Go:Piano can inspire with box-shape keys, many modern features and last but not least with a very affordable price.
The Roland Go:Piano finds its perfect place wherever there is actually no room for a digital piano. Thanks to its small dimensions, it is easy to stow away and, weighing just under 4 kg, easy to transport. This is all made possible by the plastic casing, which makes quite a stable impression despite its lightweight construction. Thanks to replaceable AA batteries the Go:Piano can also be taken anywhere – very practical .
If you want to learn how to play the piano the classical way, you’re obviously at the wrong address. The Go:Piano lacks a hammer action and the keys are only lightly weighted: Don’t even expect an authentic playing feel here. Nevertheless, the box-shape keys can at least convey a piano-like playing feel, which is additionally supported by the Ivory feel coatings. In fact, the keys have good grip and play smoothly, which beginners will certainly find pleasant. The touch sensitivity can be adjusted in three levels and can also be completely deactivated.
Due to be released in April 2019 is the Roland Go:Piano-88, with some differences in design compared to the Go:Piano-61. You can tell by the lack of a display. However, the 88 key Go is otherwise equipped with the same box-shape keys as the small model. The sound selection is much smaller on the 88, but for beginners it’s certainly an interesting alternative to the Go:Piano.
The Go:Piano sounds bigger than it looks! Given the polyphony of 128 voices, you are already on the safe side, and the sounds are pleasing. The acoustic pianos sound nice and warm, creating a wide stereo image. Besides the 10 acoustic pianos, there are other keyboard sounds. The Wurlitzer electric piano is really fun, because it can be played very dynamically, just like the funky sounding clavinet. The Fender Rhodes-like electric piano, on the other hand, might seem a bit breathless, but overall the sound quality here is quite good. The organ sounds, scat vocals and vibraphone are also great.
The Go:Piano is equipped with Bluetooth, allowing for wireless audio playback through the built-in speakers or connected headphones. Ideal for playing along to a playback with your Go:Piano. Or you can connect the Go:Piano with Roland’s piano app “Piano Partner” to use various learning features. Play along to songs with your smartphone, learn to play the piano with internet apps, or play notes and jam to rhythm accompaniments with the professional Piano Partner app. You can also listen to learning videos from your smartphone via Bluetooth and play along to the video at the same time – all this is possible with the Go:Piano.
The Roland Go:Piano is suitable as a small transportable keyboard that can also be easily connected to an audio laptop or iPad. Handy if you want to make music on the go with more complex music programs. A USB port and audio input are available for combination with Piano VST or Piano app.
As a MIDI master keyboard for playing with the sequencer, the Go:Piano also offers an easy-to-grip keyboard for advanced users. There is also an audio output to connect the Go:Piano to a mixer or amplifier.
With 61 keys, the Go:Piano is not aimed at those who want to learn the piano in the most authentic way possible. Rather, the Go:Piano is a recommendation for anyone who wants a flexible and compact instrument to discover the joy of playing the piano.

Not necessarily recommended for learning and practicing the piano. Still, an interesting piano keyboard with modern features - especially if portability is a priority.
