C. Bechstein Pianofortefabrik AG Berlin manufactures upright and grand pianos under various brand names that represent different quality levels. Above the premium “Bechstein” line is the master series, designated “C. Bechstein.” The W. Hoffmann brand occupies the mid-price segment, while the Zimmermann brand represents the entry-level class.
Bechstein instruments are highly regarded worldwide for their precise sound and exceptional craftsmanship. Many famous classical and jazz recordings have been made on C. Bechstein grand pianos. Notable jazz musicians who have recorded with Bechstein include Dave Brubeck, Oscar Peterson, Joachim Kühn, and Paul Kuhn. Legendary pop recordings such as Hey Jude by The Beatles and Your Song by Elton John were also made on Bechstein grand pianos.
Bechstein operates its own global distribution network. In Germany, Bechstein pianos and grand pianos are available at C. Bechstein Centers. The acoustic instruments can be upgraded to hybrid pianos equipped with a silent system using the C. Bechstein Vario system. In collaboration with Bechstein, Casio developed and launched the Celviano Grand Hybrid digital piano in 2015.
